Dezhi Ran is a fourth-year Ph.D. candidate at Peking University, where he is fortunate to be advised by Prof. Tao Xie. He is leading the RISE (Rigorous and Intelligent Software Engineering) Group at Peking University, focusing on research in software engineering and artificial intelligence. His research interests include software engineering, programming language, and reinforcement learning, especially software testing and program synthesis with large language models. He received his bachelor’s degree with summa cum laude from Turing Class at Peking University, where he worked with Prof. Kaigui Bian on the emerging field of short video streaming and recommendation. He also worked with Prof. Jie Zhang and Prof. Xiaotie Deng on algorithmic game theory and auction design.

His current research interests are focused on two specific topics: (1) rigorous software engineering for developing provably effective automated testing and development for complex software systems and (2) intelligent software engineering for deriving engineering principles for foundation model development and deployment with system software support.
